Inside Iowa Politics: How Republican pushes for change but continue GOP leadership
Zach Lahn wants to follow Branstad, Reynolds in office
DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) -- Zach Lahn is a first-time political candidate and one of the five Republicans running for governor of Iowa who hopes to continue what has already been 16 consecutive years of the GOP holding the state’s top job.
Lahn, a farmer and business owner from Belle Plaine, is pushing for a change in focus, while also praising some of the work Republicans have accomplished since voters gave them the governor’s mansion since 2011 and the majority of seats in the legislature since 2017.
He cited tax cuts and an increase in taxpayer support for families to send students to private schools as top examples of the successes of his party in recent years.
Lahn also maintains that both major political parties have not yet done enough when it comes to keeping younger Iowans in the state, lowering the rate of new cancer cases among residents, or protecting family farmers.
