Man sentenced after police find 117 pounds of meth hidden in vehicle
Raul Misael Lopez Murrieta admitted to transporting methamphetamine from Arizona to Iowa
CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - An Arizona man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, one year after he was busted with more than 100-pounds of the drug.
Federal officials say Raul Misael Lopez Murrieta, 23, delivered approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine in May 2025 to Richard Allen Tuan Casey, 37, of Coralville, according to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing.
In July 2025, law enforcement stopped Lopez Murrieta on I-80 in Dallas County and found approximately 117 pounds of meth in the tires of a vehicle he was towing.
Lopez Murrieta admitted he was compensated for transporting methamphetamine from Arizona to the Midwest for distribution.
Casey is scheduled to be sentenced June 24 following his plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, and use of a communication facility.
