Iowa City recovery center opening, hopes to help those facing addiction
Developers at ThriveNow want to help people battling substance abuse disorder.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - ThriveNow is hoping to offer support to people facing substance abuse disorder in the Iowa City area.
The new facility, opening in Silvercrest Place, is designed to help people combat things like drug and alcohol addiction. This is ThriveNow’s second location, the first opened in Des Moines earlier this year. The team is ready to help and has established partnerships with local hospitals.
“Everybody recognizes it’s just such a need,” Brock Milligan, senior development specialist with ThriveNow, said. “There’s such a demand for substance use disorder treatment and a very limited supply of beds here in Iowa.”
Milligan is in recovery himself after his own experiences with addiction.
“Don’t give up,” Milligan said. “I’m in long term recovery myself, coming up on seven years being in recovery, and so we’re trying to break down those barriers and those stigmas every day by talking about it.“
He isn’t alone there at ThriveNow and believes the experience of him and his team could make the difference for those they’re helping.
“A lot of our staff is in recovery,” Milligan said. “Very empathetic, passionate, we’re growing.”
He hopes to help others and wants to remind people that even when relapse happens it’s still worth fighting.
“Most people have to go to treatment center a couple times to get it right,” Milligan said.
There will be a ribbon cutting and open house starting at 11 a.m. to celebrate the opening.
