Anamosa Hillclimb continues decades-old Midwest motorcycle tradition
ANAMOSA, Iowa (KCRG) - Motorcyclists from across the Midwest went full throttle Saturday at the Anamosa Hillclimb.
The decades-old tradition draws riders who either fall off or get over the hill as fast as possible. About 500 spectators watched bikers from across the Midwest.
Denny Schultz rents the land and has run the event since 1965. He is a former rider himself. His two sons are involved in running the show.
He said he keeps the tradition going because the spectators have loved it and keep coming back.
“The kids will keep it going I’m sure cause they’re just as probably crazy as I am,” Schultz said. “It’s a thrill you just can’t imagine. You got a timer at the bottom and one at the top, and if you don’t make it it’s footage.”
“You don’t have to have too many brains either I guess.”
The event happens twice a summer. The next hillclimb is scheduled for September.
