Fareway Cooking Segment: Making easy to grab snack stations
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - When school’s out for summer, one thing that comes up a lot is, “I’m hungry.” And instead of feeling like you’re constantly answering that question, one simple idea is to create a summer snack station.
This can be a bin in your fridge and pantry with easy, grab-and-go options that kids can choose from.
For the fridge, think things like cut-up fruit, yogurt, cheese sticks, or even pre-made sandwiches. For the pantry, you could include crackers, granola bars, applesauce, or popcorn.
You can even give kids some guidance—like picking one or two items at snack time—to keep things balanced. It gives them a little independence, and it takes some of the pressure off you.
You might label sections like “protein” and “carbs,” or just keep a mix in each bin. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just practical. So this summer, set up a simple snack station, it makes snack time easier for everyone.
