LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (KCRG) - A man who ran his car into the family of former Hawkeyes basketball recruit, Ava Jones, is guilty on all charges in this case. Her mother, Amy, testified during the penalty phase on Monday.

During closing arguments today, prosecutors said Hurley was “extremely indifferent to the value of human life” when he chose to drive through downtown Louisville that July day in 2022.

Also in that closing argument, prosecutors showed video of Hurley running a red light and crashing into the family.

The crash killed Trey Jones, Ava’s dad, and critically injured her mom, Amy. Ava was also hit and suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Prosecutors say Hurley was high on fentanyl when the crash happened.

Amy Jones testified after the guilty verdict, and talked about Ava’s injuries.

“Trey is gone... I feel like my daughter is gone too,” said Amy. “She was always just so amazing and worked so hard to do well at those sports and now she doesn’t have that capability to do anything like that, close to it.”

Amy Jones went on to say how hard it has been to financially and emotionally support her three children since the death of her husband.
