Eastern Iowa families go camping for Labor Day
SOLON, Iowa (KCRG) - Celebrating the fruits of labor, with a day off.
Over 20-million Americans go camping for Labor Day weekend. Eastern Iowans took to Lake Macbride to set up camp, including Makena Blood and Kaylie Hoyle who bring their kids and siblings out every year.
“We’ve been friends for about 15 years. So yeah all our kiddos, they pretty much grew up together, and they’re all best friends and it’s kind of a tradition every year,” Hoyle said.
According to Kampgrounds of America (KOA), Labor Day weekend is becoming so popular it could soon become the busiest camping weekend of the year, out pacing Memorial Day weekend.
“The kids love to fish, that’s my favorite part, when they come running up with their fish, and their super excited about it. Or just when we beach days and we get to just lay out together and just have fun. I love it all,” Hoyle said.
One family went camping for the holiday for the first time.
“We went swimming, at the beach down there. And then we came back we had s’mores, did some stories,” Gabriel Burrus said.
For some, the best part of Labor Day is simply being able to do nothing at all.
“It feels good to not have homework and like not have to do anything,” Nathan Burrus said.
