IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Poolgoers will have to wait another year to go for a swim at Iowa City’s renovated City Park Pool.
The pool has been closed since 2024 amid ongoing construction. It was expected to be completed April 2026 and open in time for Memorial Day 2026.
The city announced delays to construction will push back the opening until 2027.
The $14 million project will feature three distinct pools:
- 5,197-square-foot Leisure Pool with Play Features – An interactive space for families and children.
- 6-Lane, 50-Meter Lap Pool – Will offer space for swimmers of all skill levels, with two lanes for lap swimming, even during open swim hours. The other four lanes will be available for general use during open swim. The pool will include a ramp and stair entries for improved accessibility.
- Diving Well – Featuring two low dives and one high dive, and a climbing wall.
There will also be a new bathhouse, featuring a year-round community room for local events and meetings.
