IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Members of Johnson County law enforcement spent Sunday bonding with the local youth-- all while playing bean bag toss.

It’s all a part of a new project called F.U.N. put on as a partnership between area law enforcement, Johnson County Community Violence Intervention, and Iowa City Parks and Recreation.

The acronym stands for Friendship, Unity and Neighbors.

Sunday area youth got a chance to play bean bag toss with members of the Iowa City Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.

The overall goal of the project is to let law enforcement make connections with the youth and vice versa.

”Sometimes kids are a little uneasy to come up to us when we’re in full uniform unless they’ve had a connection with us like playing bags or playing Pickleball or something,” said Sgt. Kevin Bailey with the Iowa City Police Department.

The groups hope to continue to put on events under Project F.U.N. monthly.
