CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The City of Cedar Rapids plans to reopen 34th Street Southeast, according to the Gazette.

This is after the company, Shift, told the city last month that it couldn’t finish two jobs. Both jobs were part of the Paving for Progress program.

The city is working to find another contractor to finish the work. However, a final timeline hasn’t been worked out.

City Engineer Ken DeKeyser told the Gazette enough work will be done so the road isn’t closed this winter.

That’s something neighbors told KCRG they hoped would happen after Shift backed out.

Shift also pulled out on a project on the northeast side of town, in the area of Richard Drive and Nancy Jane Lane.

The company has not provided a reason for defaulting on the work.
