We can still win the Big Ten West and we can win the Big Ten championship.’ I know a lot of people kind of laughed at that, so we love being the underdog.”
aitlin Clark scored 32 points, and No. 5 Iowa survived wasting a pair of double-digit leads before rallying to finally beat No. 16 Kansas State 77-70 in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase on Sunday night.
Caitlin Clark scored 21 points, coach Lisa Bluder got her 500th victory at Iowa and the fifth-ranked Hawkeyes had no trouble on the way to beating Florida Gulf Coast 100-62 in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Showcase on Saturday night.
Although the Iowa football team has already clinched the Big Ten West Division Title, the Hawkeyes still feel like they have a lot to play for this Friday. That includes avenging a loss against the Cornhuskers last season, winning their final trophy game and becoming a 10-win team on the season.
In front of a record breaking attendance of 8,207 fans, Iowa senior Marlynne Deede pinned her way through the Trailblazer Duals. Deede said about wrestling in front of such a large crowd. The quad meet marked the Iowa women’s wrestling team’s first home competition.
“That is the whole point of trusting the process, if I could say anything about it it’s just ‘walk by faith rather than sight.’ The faith to believe in something that’s not exactly there yet, but it will be.”
