Numerous Eastern Iowa wrestlers advanced to the semifinal round of the girls state wrestling tournament after picking up victories in the quarterfinal round Thursday night at the Xtream Arena in Coralville.
Gabby Gregory scored 25 points and combined with Serena Sundell to make 7 of 8 free throws in the last 22 seconds and Kansas State defeated No. 12 Iowa State, the Big 12 Conference co-leader, 78-77 on Wednesday night.
Iowa guard Caitlin Clark is averaging 27.1 points per game, 7.9 rebounds and 7.9 assists this season. Aside from her stats, her passion for the game is why kids continue to line up inside arenas to get a glimpse of the superstar.
Kris Murray scored 24 points, Ahron Ulis added 16 and Iowa defeated Rutgers 93-82. The Hawkeyes (13-8, 5-5 Big Ten), boasting the conference’s top offense for five years running and averaging 80.7 points per game this season, became the first team to score 80 points on the Scarlet Knights (14-7, 6-4) this season. Patrick McCaffery, playing for the first time since Jan. 1, came off the bench to score nine on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.
Xavier Bledson scored 20 points off of the bench to help lead the Indiana State Sycamores over the Northern Iowa Panthers 79-71 on Saturday. The Sycamores are now 14-9 with the win and the Panthers dropped to 12-10.
Kobe Brown scored 20 points and D’Moi Hodge scored 17 points to help Missouri beat No. 12 Iowa State 78-61 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Brown scored 14 of his points in the first half and led Missouri with 12 rebounds.
Margaret, Connor and Fran McCaffery made a visit to Hope Lodge in Iowa City Friday afternoon. It's a free lodging facility for cancer patients and their caregivers. The McCaffery's had a surprise for a couple patients.
The Iowa women’s basketball team extended their win streak to five straight. In addition, the Hawkeyes picked up back-to-back road victories, which included handing No. 2 and unbeaten Ohio State their first loss on the season.
