Iowa’s Blue Alert system was established in 2021, but it’s first use was on September 13th, 2023, when the Iowa Department of Public Safety activated the program after Algona police officer Kevin Cram was shot and killed in the line of duty.
The “Vote Yes to Invest!”committee - made up of various school board members and area residents - spent several weeks collecting signatures to present in front of the board. According to their facebook page, they were able to collected 7.624 signatures. 6,909 were deemed valid signatures by the district.

Firefighters in Cedar Falls worked quickly to protect a shed and homes in the 2400 block of Central Avenue. Flames had already consumed a camper at 2406 Central, and were quickly burning the grass around it.
