Waverly-Shell Rock sends 3 wrestlers to the state finals

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - Waverly Shell Rock picked up some big points in the 3A State Wrestling semi-finals Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Go-Hawks placed three in the finals including Jacob Herrmann, who won at 160 pounds with a hard fought 3-2 decision.

Linn-Mar’s Jacob Wempen will wrestle for a state championship Saturday night. Wempen won his 182 match in the semi-finals 9-4.

Wempen will face Western Dubuque’s Devin Ludwig who beat Brett Mower of Glenwood in a thriller 9-7. In another tight match Dubuque Hempsteads Joe Pins held on for a 7-6 decision to head to the finals for the time in his career.

Freshman Hunter Garvin from Iowa City West dominated in the semi-finals with a 14-2 major decision over Johnston’s Thomas Edwards.
