CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - After giving up 37 points last week at Western Illinois, Northern Iowa's defense bounced back against 13th ranked Illinois State on Saturday. The Panthers defeated the Redbirds, 26-16.

Illinois State was held to just 215 total yards of offense. The Panthers also had three sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown.

"We wanted to show them we are on of the better defenses in the conference," said senior defensive lineman Bryce Douglas.

Northern Iowa travels to Youngstown State next Saturday.
