SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KCRG) - There are several big storylines heading into Friday's Alamo Bowl between Washington State and Iowa State, but the biggest one will be the quarterback battle between Gardner Minshew and Brock Purdy.
Minshew, a senior, has thrown for 4,477 yards and 36 touchdowns for the Cougars this season.
As for Purdy, the roster says that he's a freshman, but he certainly hasn't played like one. Since taking over the starting position against Oklahoma State, he's thrown for 1,935 yards and 16 touchdowns.
"The biggest thing for Brock is he's been able to lean on some of those players around him," said Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.
The Cyclones and Cougars face-off at 8 p.m. on Friday.
