Special Olympics basketball player is named team captain at Western Dubuque

EPWORTH, Iowa (KCRG) -- Jared Wulfekuhle was born with a rare genetic disorder called Smith-Lemli-Opitz. Jared is also autistic and hearing impaired but that hasn’t stopped him from playing the game he loves.

Jared who is a Senior at Western Dubuque High School and is a manager for the Bobcat basketball team. Wulfekuhle was named the team captain this year and even got to be introduced in the starting lineup earlier this season against Dubuque Hempstead.

Jared qualified for the Special Olympics in basketball skills this year. Wulfekuhle had the thrill of a lifetime two years ago making a shot in a Western Dubuque basketball game. TV9's Scott Saville challenged Jared in a shooting contest in this honorary Athlete of the Week Segment sponsored by Cedar Rapids Toyota.
