Kennedy senior dedicates life to gymnastics
"I have been a gymnast since I was two years old and I love gymnastics because there is always something new to learn. It is never ending there is always a progression end it always gets harder." said Allyson Steffensmeier.
Steffensmeier's favorite event is the bars and it’s easy to tell why she makes it look easy.
"I just like the bars because you get to swing around and fly through the air. I fly from the low bar to the high bar backwards. Then I grab the bar reaching backwards towards it." Steffensmeier said.
Steffensmeier is good at all events including one of the hardest, the beam, where she has perfected the front Aerial.
"The front aerial is really fun because you don’t get to see the beam at all. It is a blind landing and it’s kind of crazy but it’s fun." Steffensmeier said.
You have to be fearless to be a gymnast.
"I have fallen on my face once and on my back a lot of times." Steffensmeier said. "I think just my love for the sport keeps pushing me even when I fall. I just love it so much that even falling’s fun. It challenges you and you don’t make the same mistake again."
Steffensmeier will attend Iowa next year and she has set some big goal in the gym and in the classroom.
"I want to major in biology or biomedical science to become a doctor because I want to save lives and help as many people as I can." Steffensmeier said.
