Iowa State battles, but Iowa hangs on for thrilling one-point win

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa State nearly ended its losing streak against Iowa, but the Hawkeyes survived winning 19-18.

The Cyclones had a chance in the final match at 133 pounds. Iowa State's Austin Gomez and Iowa's Austin DeSanto were tied 8-8 with a minute to go. Gomez nearly pinned DeSanto in the final seconds, but came away with a 14-9 decision.

Jacob Warner made his Hawkeye debut at 197 and upset No. 5 William Miklus, 5-4. Sam Stoll made his season debut with a 5-1 decision over Gannon Gremmel at 285.

Iowa hosts Lehigh on Saturday, Dec. 8.
