Former Hawkeye Murray Weir passes away

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - Legendary Hawkeye Murray Weir passed away on Wednesday at the age of 89 at his home in Texas.

The Grandview, Iowa native became the first officially recognized NCAA scoring leader in 1948 averaging 21 points a game. He was also named MVP of the conference that year and was a first team All-American.

After college, Weir played pro basketball ending his career with the Waterloo Hawks of the National Professional Basketball League.
