IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - During warm-ups, everyone was wondering if Joe Wieskamp would start after he suffered an ankle injury in Monday's game at Michigan State. But fans also noticed Cordell Pemsl participating, which was an unexpected sighting.

Last week, head coach Fran McCaffery released a statement saying Pemsl would have surgery on his knee, which would force him to miss the rest of the season and he would apply for a waiver for a medical redshirt.

"Tuesday was when I felt like I could play," said Pemsl after Thursday's win.

"I thought it was a possibility," said head coach Fran McCaffery. "It was a possibility in New York. It was a possibility when we came back."

Pemsl finished with eight points and six rebounds in 16 minutes.
