CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The former Cedar Rapids Titans have a new name and it will represent the city on the Cedar River well.

On Friday the Indoor Football League announced the team in Cedar Rapids will be named the "River Kings."

The announcement came after a "Name The Team" contest last month.
With many suggestions including the word Kings, Kingston, and River, the winning team name River Kings was submitted by Jennifer Hadenfeld.

“We were blown away by the number of unique submissions and the passion for our team that fans exhibited during the process,” said River Kings General Manager Ryan Eucker. “With the initial group of finalists, we received a lot of feedback and eagerness from even more fans to participate so opened the Wild Card Round, which ultimately allowed us to hone in on a name with great connections to the community.”

With part one of the rebranding complete, the team will now have the logo developed and the final selection of team colors.

The decision to rebrand comes after the team was sold earlier this year.

On June 19 it was announced the team was bought by California businessman Roy Choi after being put up for sale in late January.

In August Choi and Matt Stene, the new owners of the team, announced Ryan Eucker was hired as the General Manager for the 2019 IFL season.

It has not been announced when the color and logo will be released.
