Cal-State Northridge takes series-opener from Hawkeyes

IOWA CITY, Iowa. (KCRG) - The Iowa Hawkeyes fell 8-5 in their home opener to the Cal-State Northridge Matadors on Saturday afternoon. Iowa led 3-2 through the first three innings but the Matadors used a three-run home run by Sean Skelly to take the lead in the seventh.

Tanner Padgett (Iowa) had an opportunity in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded, but struck out swinging on a full-count.

Iowa looks to rebound against the Matadors in game two of the series Sunday at 1:05.
