Alburnett continues to break barriers, reaches 1A semifinal

DES MOINES, Iowa. (KCRG) - The Alburnett Pirates are making their first trip to the state tournament one to remember, advancing to the semifinal following a 55-54 win over Sioux Central.

Hunter Caves paced Alburnett with 19 points, Austin Huber was close behind finishing with 17 (5-7 from behind the arc).

The Pirates stormed out of the gate on a 9-0 run to start the game, only to see Sioux Central tie it back up with a 22-14 3rd quarter. The Pirates held their own and kept their composure in the final quarter, outscoring Sioux Central 16-14 behind Cave's go-ahead jump shot with :15 left.

Alburnett now looks ahead to a match-up with St. Mary's Remsen in the semifinal Wednesday at 3:45.
