West Delaware, Marion clinch state berths

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. (KCRG) - The West Delaware Hawks clinched a berth in the 3A state quarterfinal following a 66-59 win over Assumption on Monday night.

Senior Derek Krogmann led the way with a game-high 25 points. The Hawks had two other players finish with double-digit scoring figures with Gavin Soppe (20) and Logan Woellert (10).

The last time West Delaware made it to Des Moines was in 2017, eventually losing to Dallas Center-Grimes in the semi-final.

The Marion Indians also clinched a berth for the second consecutive season defeating Maquoketa 41-38.

A 12-2 run to end the game helped the Indians who trailed for the majority of the game. Maquoketa, who was ranked #2, retires at 20-3 on the season.
