(Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier) - The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that an Alta Vista man has been sentenced to life in prison after his child was found dead and maggot infested in 2017.

29-year-old Zachary Koehn was sentenced Tuesday morning to life in prison without parole on a first-degree murder charge.

Koehn's four-month-old son Sterling Koehn was found dead in August 2017 inside their home.

Court documents say he was found dead in a swing seat and further investigation found the child died of dehydration, malnutrition, and infection from diaper rash.

During the trial, an entomologist said the maggots indicated the child's diaper hadn't been changed in at least a week.

A jury in Henry County found Koehn guilty in October.

Sterling's mom, 21-year-old Cheyanne Harris, has also been charged and her trial is scheduled to be in January.
