World Wide Web turns 30 years old

(CNN) - Tuesday marks the 30th birthday of the World Wide Web.

Tim Berners-Lee, then a 33-year-old software engineer, handed in a proposal that ignited the information age.

Berners-Lee's idea called for managing and monitoring research. It was basically the first draft of what would become the World Wide Web.

Google honored the birthday with an animated doodle that had pixelated laters that were frequently seen on web pages years ago.
