Woman pronounced dead following Cedar Falls fire
Authorities say a Cedar Falls woman, pulled from a recent fire, has died.
Medical staff pronounced Melissa Jensen, 42, dead at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at 6:40 p.m., Saturday.
"An autopsy will be performed by the Johnson County Medical Examiner Department," said Cedar Falls Fire Chief John Bostwick in a news release. "Those results may take several months to be released."
Firefighters had rescued Jensen after flames broke out in her home, 2216 Victory Drive, Thursday. She was found unconscious near a locked door to the property after authorities forced their way inside.
Firefighters and police also found two cats and other pet supplies in a locked idling car.
The fire started in the basement of the home, leaving it significantly damaged. The cause has yet to be determined.
Police said they had responded to over a dozen calls for service to the property in recent years.
