CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Temperatures are still set to take off today. While we start off rather chilly this morning, expect southwest winds to kick in and rapidly warm us as they are supposed to do. These winds may gust over 30mph at times this afternoon, propelling temperatures well into the 50s. A few isolated 60s are possible, mainly from Iowa City and points southwest.
In contrast, Dubuque and points north will likely only see lower 50s.
Regardless of where you are at today, the combination of strong wind and dry air will create a high fire danger this afternoon. Any outdoor burning is discouraged as fires could spread quickly. The dryness will continue with us the rest of the week.
Friday night, we may get grazed by a system passing mainly to our southwest, though this looks of very low impact at this time, and should be out of here as we go into the weekend.
