Wanted woman faces 14 new charges after Cedar Rapids chase

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A wanted woman has been arrested after a chase in Cedar Rapids Wednesday.

Police were informed 37-year-old Quiana Lee McMackin from Cedar Rapids was at the Walmart located on 29th Avenue SW Wednesday night.

McMackin was wanted for Revocation of Probation for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), Revocation of Probation for Theft-2nd Degree, and Revocation of Probation for Theft-3rd Degree.

When authorities arrived at 9:59 p.m. they saw McMackin leaving the store. She then got into a car without any license plates.

Officers then went up to the vehicle, but McMackin locked the doors and sped off through the parking lot.

She then drove onto 29th Avenue without stopping or yielding for other traffic before going eastbound through a red light on Edgewood Road.

McMackin kept driving eastbound on 29th Avenue, going 55 mph in a 25 mph zone before turning northbound onto 27th Street SW.

Authorities say her vehicle briefly left the roadway before she was able to regain control. McMackin continued, running a stop sign at Wilson and 27th Street before turning onto Hickory Drive SW.

The chase continued onto Willow Street, where McMackin left the roadway, driving onto the grass and barely missing mailboxes before going onto 25th Street SW northbound.

She then turned eastbound onto Matthew Drive SW to Probst Drive northbound before going east onto Shady Grove Road SW where the road ends.

McMackin then went off-roading into the mud before driving into a pile of mulch and down an embankment. She then went through vegetation before hitting a tree.

After hitting the tree, McMackin tried to flee on foot but was arrested.

McMackin was charged with Eluding, Interference with Official Acts, Driving While License Under Suspension, three counts of Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device (Whispering Pines Ct and 25th Street SW)(27th Street and Wilson Ave SW)(Edgewood Road and 29th Ave SW), three counts of Failure to Maintain Control (27th Street SW, Willow Street SW, Shady Grove Road SW), Speeding (55 in 25 zone on 29th Ave SW), Unsafe Entry onto Roadway (29th Ave SW), Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, Operation without Registration Card or Plate, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (scale and pipe).
