CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Last month was chilly for November. The average high was 38.0 degrees, a whopping eight-and-a-half degrees below normal. Only four days in November had a high temperature that was above normal.
This month’s average high has been about 36.4 degrees. While that’s obviously cooler than November, it’s about two degrees above normal for the first 17 days of December. This month has already had 11 days with above-normal highs, including the current eight-day streak.
The normal high has fallen below freezing, but our forecast highs remain above that mark for at least another week. Based on our current forecast, Cedar Rapids’ current above-normal streak should reach at 19 days. The longest streak this year was 19 days from May 22 to June 9. Getting so many consecutive days above-normal (or below-normal, for that matter) is pretty unusual.
