CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - While December is known for snowfall, don’t discount the potential for significant rainfall either. The largest daily rainfall in Cedar Rapids in December occurred on December 13, 2015 when 1.82” fell. There are other several dates with over 1.40” of rainfall in one day. The oldest record happened all the way back on December 12th, 1901. There have been only 18 December days since records began in 1892 with a rainfall over one inch.
The rainfall event this weekend does have the potential to exceed one inch, depending on the exact track the storm system takes and whether any thunder occurs. It’ll be a cold rain, too, as highs will be stuck in the 30s.
