CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Across the Upper Midwest, wet weather has been dominant in 2018. We are just finishing up with yet another significant precipitation event as well. Out of 126 years of record keeping, parts of Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois had either the wettest or second-wettest year on record. Precipitation takes into account not just rain but also melted snow.
Locally, New Hampton, Independence and Waterloo have all set new annual records for precipitation. While amounts were not at record levels farther south, Cedar Rapids will finish the year about six inches above normal. Iowa City will finish about twelve inches above normal.
