Vote for March's Student of the Month
Selena Killham is a 7th grader at Excelsior Middle School. The 13-year-old volunteers for a variety of breeders associations, 4-H, Girl Scouts and her church. When she heard about the devastation from hurricanes in Texas and Florida, she started a book drive to help storm victims and collected stuffed animals for Operation Underground Railroad. Killham is a "little sister" in Big Brothers Big Sisters. She and her Big Sister have made scarves for the homeless. Killham also teaches sign language to kids at her school and interprets for her mom.
17-year-old Carter Spore is a Junior at Union High School. He's always willing to support and improve the lives of others, from struggling classmates to his siblings. Spore is at the top of his class, serves as student body president and volunteers for Special Olympics and the Youth Sports Foundation. He also referees for local flag football leagues. His football team unanimously supported him to join the Unity Council as a Freshman. Spore is also a member of the track and robotics teams and excels in choir and other fine arts groups at his school.
Emma Vacek is a senior at Midland High School in Wyoming. The 18-year-old has won several awards through the Midland FFA including state honors. She was also picked to participate in the Carole Harder National Council on Youth Leadership. She's collected blue ribbons at the state fair for her creative arts, sewing and baking projects. Vacek has logged more than 340 volunteer hours during her high school career. She also started her own business in her basement, making artwork out of old barn boards, for which she earned an entrepreneur award.
