CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Here are the three finalists for February’s KCRG-TV9 Student of the Month:
Emily Irmen, 8th Grade, Prairie Point Middle School. Emily excels in archery. In just her first year, she advanced to Nationals! She also attends Youth Group at her church. She also started a bakery with her sister, taking online orders and attending farmer’s markets. She’s also taking advanced math and literature classes and took part in college for kids last summer.
Maddelin Maire, 6th Grade, Taft Middle School. Maddelin’s family says she wants to be a veterinarian and shows it in her love for science and animals. She helped start “Cat Tales”, reading to cats as part of her volunteering at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Maddelin also rang bells for the Salvation Army, made sandwiches for a mobile meals program, helped “Days for Girls”, a charity providing feminine hygiene to women around the world. She also dances and takes art classes outside of school.
Allison Ryan, 12th Grade, Tipton High School. Along with playing 5 sports, Allison is a member of the National Honor Society, maintaining a 3.95 GPA. She also volunteers with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and ISTEP, an anti-tobacco group, and sings in her church choir. Allison is also job shadowing in a classroom as she hopes to get her degree in education after graduation.
