A University of Iowa Wrestler has been charged with making a false report after suffering a gunshot wound.

Iowa City police arrested Samuel Stoll, who reported to an Iowa City hospital on June 19th with a gunshot wound to the knee.

A criminal complaint says Stoll initially told police he had shot himself while sitting in his garage. Police later found out he was not shot at his home. Stoll later admitted he was wounded while playing a prank on a friend but did not want to get his friend in trouble.

The complaint does not specify exactly where or how the shooting happened.

Stoll could face up to a year in prison and fines, if convicted.

Stoll was an All-American last year for the Hawkeye wrestling team and placed fifth at the NCAA championships. The University of Iowa has not commented yet on the incident.
