DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa (KCCI) - Two dogs were left behind in a kennel near rising flood waters over the weekend in Dallas County.

KCCI reports the Dallas County Natural Resources manager found two Maltese dogs near a boat ramp in Van Meter and then took them to a shelter.

According to the shelter, the dogs were not hurt and appeared to have been well taken care of. One dog was microchipped.

Shelter managers said they don't know who the owners are but they are working to figure out what happened.
