TAMA COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A judge is moving a cold case murder trial out of Tama County.

Tait Purk has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder. Police said in April 2000 he killed his fiancee, Cora Okonski.

Okonski was 23 and engaged when she went out to the store and never came home. Purk, reported her missing the next day. The two had a rocky relationship with both reporting threats from the other, police have said.

Purk's lawyer said he couldn't get a fair trial in Tama County because of publicity and other factors. A judge on Thursday ordered the trial to start May 1 in Iowa County

Purk is already serving time on unrelated federal drug and gun charges.
