Teen found with gunshot wound turns out to be robbery suspect

Grinnell police have arrested a teenager for armed robbery after officers found him with gunshot wound.

Police responded to a Casey's General Store located east on Highway 6 for an armed robbery on Thursday at 11:05 p.m. When there witnesses told the officer a male wearing a ski mask went into the store with a shotgun and demanded money. Then, the man ran with an undetermined amount of money. Officers looked for the suspect in the area and couldn't find him.

Later police responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound at 1025 Chatterton Street at about 1:25 a.m. Friday morning. First responders transported a 17-year-old man to Grinnell Regional Medical Center with a minor gunshot wound.

Police later determined that teen was the robbery suspect. Prosecutors have charged Marcos Mendoza-Coberrubias with 1st Degree Robbery.

Another teen also faces charges.19-year-old Zachary Herr faces a charge of providing a shotgun to a minor.

Both suspects are in the Poweshiek County jail.
