19-year-old arrested in Cedar Rapids homicide case from 2017

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Cedar Rapids Police Department said an arrest has been made in the 2017 homicide of Leland Harris.

James Phillips, 19, is charged in the homicide and is currently in the Linn County Jail on other charges not related to this case, police said.

On the morning of Nov. 22, 2017, police were called to an alley in the 500 block of 10th Street SW where Harris, 34, was found dead. Authorities said he suffered from traumatic injuries from gunshot wounds.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and there's potential for more charges.

According to court records, Phillips is also accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl in 2018. He is still awaiting trial on those charges.
