CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - We have a couple more quiet days ahead of us before snow moves in Friday night into Saturday. This afternoon will be pretty nice with sunshine, a much lighter wind, and highs in the upper 20s. Clouds gradually increase tonight, leading to a gray sky for Friday with highs in the lower 30s.
Snow spreads in from the south Friday night, mainly after midnight, and continues throughout Saturday. Snowfall amounts will be highest in southern Iowa and lowest north. At this time, amounts around an inch or less are expected from Highway 20 and north. About a couple of inches should fall around Highway 30, with three or four inches from Interstate 80 and south. These numbers will probably still shift somewhat as we get closer. One good thing is that the wind will not be an issue in the form of blowing snow, and temperatures will be close to freezing so that treatments will be able to do their job at melting the snow.
