CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) Dozens of high school students prepared to audition for the Iowa All-State Choir at a two-day workshop through Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.

The All-State Chorus brings together Iowa's best high school singers through a competitive audition process.

Local students discovered more about the pieces they'll perform at auditions in October. Kennedy Junior Erin Grams says the workshop is really about learning how to practice.

"I've learned a huge chunk about the background of the music, and how to start practicing music on my own. I've learned different ways to take notes, and figure out which notes I need to work on.," Grams said.

Faculty and staff with Mount Mercy coached students on notes, rhythms, and texts for each piece. The workshop cost 65 dollars.
