CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - Weekend passes for a new music festival coming to Cedar Rapids this summer went on sale Friday.
They are $375 to see big name artists like Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson, plus other events.
To put that ticket cost into perspective, TV9 compared it with a few other similar events.
Last year, a four day general admission Lollapalooza music festival ticket in Chicago was $335. A three day pass ticket to Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis is anywhere from $105 to $165. Tickets for South by Southwest are more than $800 for 11 days of events.
Organizers of newbo evolve say the price is worth it.
"We were very conscious of price we wanted this to be affordable," Go Cedar Rapids President Aaron McCreight said.
They say it's all about what you get.
"So for the evolve pass for $375 you get reserved seating, preferred seating right up front in front of the stage.. You get there whenever you want. Nobody will be in your seat, and it's actually a chair," McCreight said.
There will be speakers and other events. Right now they've announced television personalities Clint Harp and Carson Kressley and a few others.
As of now, you can only buy a separate ticket to Maroon 5 or Kelly Clarkson, not to any of the extras.
Some say the price is too high, but others say it's worth it.
"For Cedar Rapids it's a bit costly but I know that there's going to be quite a few big names, so it's kind of understandable," Medea Ralls said.
"They are like really big artists," Meghan Pike said.
Even though Friday was the first day of ticket sales, organizers say they are happy with sales and said some were lined up at the Cellular Center to get theirs right when it opened.
