Jeff Danielson, a State Senator representing Iowa's Senate District 30, announced his resignation on Thursday.

In his resignation letter, Senator Danielson did not list a reason for the resignation and said it would take effect immediately.

Danielson, a Democrat, was serving his fourth term in the Iowa Senate, representing parts of Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Hudson. He was first elected in 2004. He won reelection in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Governor Kim Reynolds will likely call for a special election to fill the vacancy, though details have yet to be announced.
