Driver of bus that hit 15-year-old identified

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Authorities responded to a crash involving a Cedar Rapids Community School District school bus at 7:38 a.m. Thursday.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department says the accident happened on Mt. Vernon Road near the 26th Street intersection when a pedestrian was walking north across the street in a crosswalk.

An investigation found Darla Ogden, 53 of Cedar Rapids, was driving a Cedar Rapids Community Schools bus that drove through a red light, hitting 15-year-old Cameron Smeby.

Smeby was taken to Mercy Medical Center for serious injuries before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The boy, who is a student at Washington High School, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Ogden has been cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.
