CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG)- For the 17th year, members of the Cedar Rapids Police Department played “Santa Cop” to help some less fortunate families.
Officers help a family pick out winter clothing for children. This was the 17th Santa Cop event for Cedar Rapids.
The Cedar Rapids Police Protective Charity takes kids shopping several times a year with donated funds. And on Wednesday, it was time for the Santa Cop visit.
Kids and families gathered at the Blairs Ferry Road Target store in Cedar Rapids.
Families who need a helping hand for the holidays are referred by different social agencies, schools or other groups.
Officers took the kids shopping for winter clothing first and then a present or a toy for under the tree.
The department’s charity raises about $45,000 throughout the year. About $15,000 to $20,000 will go for the Christmas shopping trip on Wednesday.
