Richie Valens artifacts stolen in Iowa

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (ABC 6) - Police are investigating a reported theft of several heirlooms belonging to the family of Ritchie Valens.

The Clear Lake Police Department said the family was in town for the Winter Dance Party celebration when two picture collages and a movie poster featuring Valens went missing.

Police said the items were taken from the Best Western Motor Ledge in Clear Lake last Saturday during a family luncheon.

The Winter Dance Party celebrates the lives and legacies of musicians Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. All three died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, in Clear Lake.
