Quiet on Wednesday, patchy fog and wind ahead for Thursday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Today's weather is a welcome break. The wind is much lighter and we'll have highs in the lower 20s under filtered sunshine and clouds gradually thicken.

Temperatures slowly rise overnight, getting to around 30 by daybreak. Patchy fog is possible early Thursday. We also have a slight chance of a light, scattered wintry mix. As a cold front hits us in the afternoon, the wind will pick up again, turning in from the northwest at 15 to 25 mph with higher gusts. That wind remains fairly stiff through a good share of Thursday night. This will cause renewed blowing and drifting in the open areas, although it shouldn't be quite as bad as it was on Tuesday.

Our weather looks chilly to finish off this week and into much of next week. Sunday is when our next round of accumulating snow looks to happen.
