DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A public hearing in Decorah Tuesday will discuss Menards' request to rezone floodplain property near Walmart.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says the Decorah Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the request to rezone the floodplain to C-4 shopping center commercial be denied on a 4-3 vote.

Since the commission denied the request, six council members will need to approve the request to rezone the property.

Menards was approved for a permit last month by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to build in the floodplain.

The public hearing will be held Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
