Authorities say the gunfire happened around 9:00 Saturday evening about a block north of the fast food restaurant near the Fas Fuel gas station. Two of the victims ran for safety. Authorities found them at the Wendy's.
All three of the victims were taken to the hospital. No word on their conditions.
Witness Larry Bell said he was headed to the liquor store nearby when he saw a commotion in front of the shop.
"They was having a little conflict or whatever and then, you know, it was cool at first," said Bell. "But, the one guy went to go get in his car, the other guy just started-- man, he was shooting at him but he was saying something about, you know, what goes around comes around."
Bell said he knew the victims and believed Saturday's shooting was in retaliation for a homicide at a Cedar Rapids Walmart, earlier this week.
On July 2, someone shot Andrew Meeks, 26, of Cedar Rapids and another unidentified 30-year-old male in a car at the Walmart on 29th Ave SW.
Emergency crews took both men to the hospital. Meeks later died from his injuries.
Authorities have not confirmed any connection. At last check, investigators were still looking for Meeks' killer.
Family and friends remembered Meeks during a vigil, Wednesday night. The mother of one of Meeks' children pleaded for the shootings in town stop. She told TV9 she hoped the murderer would take note of the pain they had caused Meeks' loved ones.
"I know you won't turn yourself in, but I hope that you find a heart," said Sherita Matthews. "As you can see there's a lot of people hurt behind it. You all took his life, took him from us. Took him away from his kids."
In June 2011, the family lost Andrew Meeks' brother, Dexter Meeks, in a Cedar Rapids shooting. He was killed near the front door of his apartment building.
That shooting has been deemed an Iowa Cold Case.
